Conducted by researchers at Charles Darwin University (CDU), the study examined statements from international terrorists post-9/11 using software designed for linguistic inquiry. By analyzing a dataset of 20 public statements, ChatGPT was tasked with identifying key themes and underlying grievances expressed in the communications of four terrorists.

The results were telling; ChatGPT successfully identified several predominant themes that permeate extremist rhetoric. Motivations for violence often included desires for justice, expressions of anti-Western sentiments, and feelings of oppression. These findings, mapped onto the Terrorist Radicalization Assessment Protocol-18 (TRAP-18), revealed a disturbing alignment with established indicators of threatening behavior.
